Day 1: Chiang Mai – Palong village
In the morning you will be picked up at your hotel in Chiang Mai, after which you head for the mountainous Chiang Dao. The first stop is at the local market. The guide does the shopping here for the coming days. He also explains the ingredients he uses for the dishes he will prepare in the coming days. Then you go to an elephant camp. Here you can see how they used to work with the elephants. Afterward, the dikes are rewarded with a wonderful bath in the river. They enjoy visibly and splash happily! After saying goodbye to the animals, you continue the journey by bamboo raft. Slowly the guide maneuvers himself along the small waterfalls, while you can enjoy a beautiful view of the jungle. Lunch is served in a Karen village. Then the draw starts. There are a few steep slopes, but in general, the trek is easy to do. Along the way is regularly stopped. The guide will explain about the various trees and plants in the forest, and of course, there is also time for taking photos. After a trek of approximately 2 hours, you will arrive in the village. Here the children can participate in all kinds of activities, such as picking fruit, collecting vegetables for dinner, feeding the pig and playing games with the other village children. Parents can relax, explore the village or help with cooking. After dinner, the guide takes you to the houses of the villagers. Here you can get acquainted with the Palong hill tribe. This tribe is originally from Myanmar and fled to Thailand in 1984. After this, it is time to go to sleep. Tired but satisfied, you fall asleep.
Day 2: Palong village – Chiang Mai
In the morning you wake up with the sound of chattering birds. The guide prepares breakfast, after which he shows you the village. If open, you will visit a local school where the children can donate school supplies to the school. After saying goodbye to the villagers, it is time for a trek of about 1.5 hours. The destination is the Karen village of Thakilek. Along the way, you will stop at the Lahu village of Ban Huay Bong, where you will visit a temple and a local blacksmith. After the trek, you will be taken to a restaurant, where a well-deserved lunch will be served. Before you go back to Chiang Mai, another stop will be made at an orchid farm. At the end of the afternoon, you will be back in Chiang Mai, a great experience!
